As a first time visitor to Spain from New York City, I was very interested to find your website while staying with friends in Valencia. This is a wonderful area, in particular for its rich history, lovely climate, and the welcoming and modern people. Interestingly, neither the guidebooks I am familiar with nor the travel agents I have spoken with seem to be aware of even the existence of a Valencian language, let alone other characteristics that distinguish the area from Catalonia. Yet any visitor to Valencia will observe very quickly that a special language is in use that is neither Castillian Spanish nor Catalonian. I believe that your site can be an excellent tool to correct this error and to appropriately publicize Valencian interests. Have you tried to work with the Valencian department of tourism, or at least to get its cooperation and/or that of similar governmental or private organizations?
Your mission is just; the cultural heritage of your special area must not be lost. That is also true for Catalonia, but the apparent desire among some extremist Catalonians to dismiss Valencian differences in an effort to increase their own territory or influence is wrong, not only for Spain, but also for the entire European community. The related article this week in the Financial Times supports this very theory, and probably will lead to more discusssion and useful publicity for your cause. As a citizen of the United States, I am well aware of the importance of each of our 50 states having integrity and respect; even some smaller areas within the states have important regional distinctions which need to be preserved, such as those of the Creoles in the New Orleans area. We in the USA made the mistake of eliminating many of the indiginous cultures (commonly known as Indians) including their languages, as did most countries in the Americas, and the resulting losses were most unfortunate.
Good luck in all your efforts to preserve Valencian culture and integrity and to make both become matters of value to all cosmopolitans.
